Filing Clerk/Law Clerk

“The most important thing in life is to stop saying, ‘I wish’ and start saying, ‘I will’. Consider nothing impossible, then treat possibilities as probabilities.”

Charles Dickens

Sunny is a law student at the University of Akron School of Law, with an expected graduation date of May 2023. She is a member of the Akron Law Crimes Against Children and Anti-Trafficking Alliance and a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Walsh University with a B.A. in Sociology/Legal Studies. While there, Sunny joined the Leaders in Social Justice Program. She worked closely with local businesses and non-profit organizations to bring opportunities to minority groups and fight social injustices. During her undergraduate years, she was employed as a judicial clerk for the Stark County Probate Court. There, she learned the filing process from the court’s perspective. Her capstone project was rewriting the training manuals for the Stark County Court Angel’s Program.

She decided at the beginning of her law career to focus her efforts on her hometown of New Philadelphia, where she intends to practice law and raise her own family. Sunny joined our team as a law clerk until she completes law school and passes the bar exam to become a licensed practicing attorney. She is passionate about family law. “My favorite part of working at the firm is the close family-oriented atmosphere our office provides, which strengthens our relationships with clients and each other.” she says. “I decided to study law because I knew I wanted to work with children by helping them in a way they couldn’t help themselves, and the legal work of a guardian ad litem and family attorney does just that.”

Sunny found a place at the McCleery Law Firm through a friend. “I heard about Attorney McCleery in high school. I did an internship with another local firm, then worked at Stark probate but I started to see the McCleery name keep popping up and expanding. My friend, who was an intern there, recommended the position to me when she graduated.”

Her grandfather was an advisor for a 4-H club and her brother is still very active. 4-H is a family affair and she values the meaningful connections she’s made and supports the organization at the county fair. Sunny and her husband, Gabe, spend their time together exploring the outdoors and the wonders nature has to offer. They also like traveling to new cities, states, or even countries whenever they get the chance. The Duvall family frequents Camp Tuscazoar, the dog park on the Southside and the Boltz Farmer’s Market on the weekends.

The communities we serve are represented in our hiring process. At McCleery Law it’s important to us to be good neighbors and that means staying involved and aware of what our communities need. One of the ways we do that is to  keep our office staffed with community members who truly love their hometowns as much as we do. Sunny is a valuable member of our team and we look forward to watching her excel at the practice of law.
